Golge Kahve Istanbul

My office is in Taksim/Beyoglu area of Istanbul. One of my favorite places to go for lunch is Golge Kahve. Hidden in an alleyway off of Istiklal Avenue, their charming veranda paired with sweet jazz melodies makes this little treausre the perfect get-away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The menu consists of not spectacular but decent cafe food, with salads and sandwiches, chicken and pasta dishes, but what make it really special are the "dishes of the day," that give you a home-cooked meal sensation. But try to get there on the earlier side as they tend to run out towards the afternoon. My favorites are the izmir meatballs with tomato pilaf and yogurt sauce and the oven baked zucchini (amazing). For dessert, the "brussel sprout pudding" is a must. Not to worry, besides the name, it has nothing to do with the vegetable itself.

All in all, it's a sweet little cafe that give you the perfect break from your busy day, especially when paired with a glass of sangria. But watch out for the cats, who are cute but demanding.. as most women are I suppose. :) Cheers and bon appetit!

Ofisim Gümüşsuyu'nda ve öğlen yemeği için tercih ettiğim mekanlar arasında favorilerimden biri Gölge Kahve. İstiklal Caddesi üzerindeki ara sokakların birinde gizlenmiş bu minik hazinenin sevimli verandası, tatlı caz melodileriyle birleşmesi, burayı şehrin kalabalık koşuşturmasından kaçmak için en ideal yer haline getiriyor.

Sandviç ve salatalar, tavuk ve makarna yemekleri gibi genel cafe yemekleri içeren, muhteşem olmamakla beraber lezzetini kaybetmeyen menüsünü asıl özel kılan, tam anlamıyla ev yemeği tadındaki  ''günlük yemekler.'' Ama oraya erken varmaya çalışın çünkü akşamüstüne doğru tükeniyorlar. Favorilerim, domatesli pilav ve cacıklı izmir köftesi ve de fırında mücver (bir harika!). Tatlı olarak da brüksel lahana muhallebisi şart. Merak etmeyin, ismi dışında sebzenin kendisiyle yakından uzaktan bir alakası yok.

Bütününe bakıldığında, bu şeker cafe size yoğun gününüze ara vermek için keyifli bir kaçamak, hele bir de bir kadeh sangria'yla beraber. Aman kedilere dikkat, şekerler ama istekleri belli... Birçok kadın gibi aslında :) Şerefe ve afiyet olsun!
