I saved packing to the last minute as usual. And as usual, I miraculously managed to be 2 hours early. This time around, I have the infamous cult movie director John Waters as my companion. I use the term quite literally, because when you're reading his latest book Role Models, you feel like you're sitting down with him at an obscure bar in New York, watching him sparkle, as he tells you all about his tales of obsession and self-identity.
Although his movie and celebrity references can be distractingly overwhelming, his sweet and sympathetic nature pulls you in as he comes to the rescue of the underdog. His role-models are as unpredictable as Waters himself. To listen to his pleasant interview on NPR, just click here.
As I am getting ready to board, I'll leave you with a quote that I liked, "Do we secretly idolize our imagined opposites, yearning to become the role models for others we know we know we could never be for ourselves?"
