Muzedechanga Istanbul

 

Tonight was the last night of my uncle's visit and to say goodbye in style, we went to Muzedechanga. Recommended by my ex-beau, it has become one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Emerging through the gardens of the Sabanci Museum, it is situated next to the historical Horse Mansion. Designed by Autoban,  the natural oak interior evokes a retro feel, just as it opens to the large breezy terrace overlooking the Bosphorus.

Prepared under the consultation of the award-winning chef Peter Gordon, the light menu presents exciting variations on the Turkish and Mediterrenean cuisines. Although I was absolutely disappointed tonight to find out that their menu shrunk as their prices went up, I was glad that they kept at least some of my favorites, such as the Changa Sucuk & Humus, the Artichoke and Green Beans salad and the Gurcu Dumplings.

It is also a wonderful spot to enjoy the breath-taking view with a couple of summer cocktails. As luscious as the dishes themselves, the cocktails are delicately prepared with unpredictable ingredients like passionfruit (Changa Passion) and roses (Isfahan) as well as offering some of the classics like Mojito and Satsuma Caipiroska.

Selected as the "Best New Restaurant" by Wallpaper in 2007, it is also a good choice for Sunday brunches. I just hope that the bad service tonight was an exception. As Shakespeare said, ''Expectation is the root of all heart-ache.'' Not to paradoxically play with your expectations, but the one thing I am sure about is that the food itself, the cocktails and the ambiance will not let you down.

Bu akşam dayımın ziyaretinin son gecesiydi ve ona havalı bir hoşçakal için Muzedechanga'ya gittik. Eski erkek arkadaşım tarafından tavsiye edilen bu restoran, hemen şehirdeki favorilerim arasına girdi. Sabancı Müzesi'nin bahçeleri arasına saklanmış, Atlı Köşk'ün hemen yanında yer alıyor. Autoban tarafından tasarlanan ahşap iç dekoruyla, retro bir hava yaratırken birden Boğaz manzaralı, geniş ve esintili terasa doğru açılıyor.

Ödüllü şef Peter Gordon ile birlikte hazırlanmış hafif menüsü, Türk ve Akdeniz mutfaklarından heyecan verici varyasyonlar sunuyor. Her ne kadar bu akşam menüde yapılmış olan değişiklikleri gördüğümde (menüdeki seçenekler azalırken fiyatlar iyice artmış) hayal kırıklığına uğramış olsam da, bazı favorilerimin hala menüde kaldığını görmek beni memnun etti. Antepfıstıklı Sucuk & Humus, Enginar ve Taze Fasulye Salatası ve Gürcü Mantısı gibi. 

Göz alıcı manzaranın yaz kokteylleriyle keyfini çıkartmak için de harika bir yer. Yemekler kadar leziz olan içki menüsü, passionfruit (Changa Passion) ve gül (Isfahan) gibi alışılmışın dışında malzemeler kullanmakla beraber, Satsuma Caipiroska ve Mojito gibi klasik kokteyller de baştan çıkarıcı. 

Wallpaper'da En İyi Yeni Restoran ünvanını hakkeden Müzedechanga, Pazar brunch'ları için de ideal bir seçim. Sadece bu akşamki servisin bir istisna olduğunu umuyorum. Shakespeare'in de dediği gibi, ''Tüm kalp kırıklıklarının kökünde beklentiler yatar.'' Bir paradoks içersinde beklentilerinizle oynamak istemem ama, tek emin olduğum şey yemeğin kendisi, kokteyller ve ambiansdan memnun kalacağınıza şüphem yok.
