A couple of weeks ago, my sis and I had a date at Date, a new restaurant at the center of Asmali Mescit. Beautifully exposed, you are immediately taken by the red and white brick walls as you enter the dimly lit restaurant. Its original architectural structure preserved from 1873, the authentic, rough texture of the walls create a refreshing juxtaposition against the modern, sleek furniture. Not only a bar and a restaurant, the elegantly curvy staircase lead you upstairs to a surprise boutique and gallery, offering a carefully picked selection of local and foreign designers.
Just like the establishment itself, the fusion menu is an intriguing creation, designed with diverse flavors. As I love to have little bites of everything, we decided to share three appetizers and a main course. Our choices were, Almond Hummus, Duck Wrap with Plum sauce, Smoked "Hamsi" with coriander flavored cucumbers and beet salad. As for our main course, we were curious to try the Grilled Salmon with noodles, green curry lentils and onion marmalade.
Our food arrived right away. And each and every one of them was more delicious than the other. What made them successful was the unique, bold and yet harmonious combinations of familiar flavors from the Mediterranean and Anatolia. Not one ingredient out-shined the other, you could taste each of them.
Long story short, I will definitely be going back to Date, not only to check out the rest of the menu, but also to check-out the bar scene. It's tough enough to find a good date in this town, you might as well enjoy the yummy food and the cool ambiance.
Bir kaç hafta önce ablamla Date'de date'e gittik, Asmalı Mescit'in hemen ortasında yeni bir restoran. Kısık ışıklı mekana girince insanın dikkatini ilk çeken, ortada bırakılmış kırmızı ve beyaz tuğla duvarların güzelliği. 1873'den kalan orijinal mimarisi korunmuş mekandaki otantik, pürüzlü duvarlarla, modern ve keskin mobilyaların birleşimi hoş bir uyum içersinde. Restoran ve barın ötesinde, zarif kıvrımlı merdivenler sizleri yukarıya, dikkatlice seçilmiş yerli ve yabancı tasarımcıların sunulduğu sürpriz bir butik ve galeriye götürüyor.
Fusion menü de restoranın kendisi gibi, değişik tatlarla tasarlanmış ilgi çekici bir kreasyon. Herşeyden ufak ufak tadıp paylaşmayı sevdiğim için, üç başlangıç ve bir ana yemek paylaşmaya karar verdik. Başlangıç olarak Bademli Humus, Erik Soslu Ördek Dürüm, Kişnişli Salatalık ve Pancar Salatalı Hamsi Füme'yi seçtik. Ana yemek olarak da noodle, yeşik köri mercimek ve soğan marmalatıyla Izgara Somon'u merak ettik.
Yemeklerimiz hemen geldi. Ve her biri birbirinden lezzetliydi. Yemekleri başarılı kılan, Akdeniz ve Anadolu'dan tanıdığımız tatların özgün, cesur ama aynı zamanda ahenkli kombinasyonu. Kullanılan hiçbir malzeme birbirini bastırmıyor, hepsini tek tek tadabiliyorsunuz.
Hikayeyi uzattık. Sonuç itibariyle, Date'e tekrar gidiyor olacağım. Sadece menünün gerisini denemek için değil, aynı zamanda yemek sonrası barın nabzını yoklamak için. Bu şehirde iyi bir date bulmak zaten zor. Bari o sırada güzel yemeklerin ve cool ortamların keyfini çıkartalım.
